Getting More Out of Your CQG Trading Platform
A product like CQG has such a breadth of tools available for traders that it is easy to become locked in to using CQG for a specific purpose because you don’t have the time to explore what other features may be available. As an aid, I have written a number of individual articles, and more will be coming, that walk you through using a particular feature of CQG. The free articles are PDF files posted at the CQG web site. We will review three of them here.
CQG offers the ability to create custom studies. Traders can create their own custom studies built upon elements of the TradeFlow bar. To see how, I wrote the article CQG TradeFlow & TradeFlow Custom Studies. The article contains a tutorial on designing you own custom study. So, even if TradeFlow isn’t what you are looking for, you can still learn how to create your own custom studies.
Another feature of CQG is the collection of Alerts available, and now automated trading. CQG can alert you to a market situation based on a traded price, time, price crossing a trend line, a study value is hit, and a particular condition is met. The alerts can open up order windows, charts, send an email, as well as send market orders, cancel orders, and liquidate positions orders to the electronic futures exchanges. The article Automated Trading Using CQG 7.4 walks you through the details.
Another popular topic is scanning portfolios for a particular condition. The article CQG 7.4 Market Scans explains setting up a portfolio and the steps to analyzing the portfolio including how to bring symbols from a txt file in using Excel to format the symbols.
As I said, more articles are in the pipeline.
